The Ancestors of Jeremiah

The Puzzle - How I Believe All The Pieces Fit

First, the many pieces of the puzzle.

1) Jeremiah Chancy is found with family in McIntosh County in the 1820 Federal Census. His marriage to Eilse (Ailsy) was circa 1824. It appears that he had a previous spouse with children. Jeremiah is about 42 while Elsie is about 16 when married.

2) In 1812 (War of 1812 Service Records) Jeremiah Chancy is a Sergeant in Oswald's 2nd Battalion, South Carolina Statetroops. Jeremiah Chancy (born in 1782) is 30 years old at this time.

3) The 1810 South Carolina census shows a 'Jerry Chancey' in Beaufort County, SC with 2 males? under 10. I believe this to be the first family of Jeremiah Chancey born

4) In 1803, a land deed obtained from the South Carolina State Archives has “Jeremiah Chancy, Junr.” with land in Beaufort District, Prince William Parish. South Carolina.

5) in the 1800 Federal Census Jerh Chancy is in Colleton County South Carolina.

6) In the 1790 Federal Census Geremiah Chancy is in St. Bartholomew's Parish (Colleton) South Carolina. This is not the same Jeremiah Chancy in the war of 1812.

7) In 1759 The first records found to date referencing Jeremiah Chancy of Colleton County SC was his service in a etachment under the command of Captain Samuel Elliott. He was drafted Nov 8, 1759 and discharged Jan 8, 1760, 62 days. Jeremiah Chaney, (sic) Private was among the more than 150 men in this command. Various land record place this Jeremiah in Colleton County South Carolina until 1798. This Jeremiah Chancy was born circa 1743 and is, I believe, the father of Jeremiah Chancy (Chancey) born 1782 in Colleton South Carolina.

I believe that the pieces of the puzzle for Jeremiah born in 1782 being the son of Jeremiah born circa 1743 fit together well. At least well enough for me to continue researching their ancestors. However; without additional proof, it is still considered speculation that they are father and son.
